Morning on the Rhine
Through a fine filter of fog at dawn,
our riverboat sails unseen,
a phantom among phantoms.
We’re shrouded within a tunnel of mist,
softly slipping between stream and sky,
between bank and invisible bank.
Faint silhouettes of towers,
and spires of churches
break through the gloom.
All else is hidden.
Here are the last two minutes of Handel’s Water Music - a joyous piece played by the Baroque Orchestra of the Berlin Music Academy. Written for a different river, but no matter.

Beautifully evocative words. A happy, happy sigh from me. Gosh, this takes me right back to my time living in Bonn, just a few minutes’ walk from the Rhein. I loved to cycle alongside it with my au pair kids, and we’d always wave to the river cruise ships. 🇩🇪
Beautiful! Are you on a river cruise?
