I don’t have Big Dog status on Substack, and I never will — however, I am definitely off the porch! I’ve been playing in the Substack dog-park for nearly four years, for the sheer joy of writing, and hoping to find one person out there who likes my flash fiction or who is moved by it in some way.
I have been hanging with a small pack of brilliant fiction writers —Alpha dogs every one of them, if you ask me. They can inspire you, make you laugh, break your heart, and mend it just as quickly. They’re writers who scramble your brains with brand new concepts and make you sigh with their elegant prose.
Today I just want to mention a few of them — all of whom have challenged me to grow, and taught me by their fine models. If you’re a new fiction reader or writer on the platform, and are not sure where to begin, here’s a list of 17 fiction writers, in no particular order, who are guaranteed to make you bark and howl with both their micro-fiction and their short stories.
