I live in cowland here in Carson Valley. More cows than people until the last census. Every time I drive by a pasture full of cows, I get a warm fuzzy feeling of security ... food security.
It's hard to tell what's on a cow's mind but they know what's familiar. Those are beautiful cows. From your Scottish tales, I sure would like to see the land. Thanks, Sharron.
Every time we go on vacation we bring hot weather with us. We went to Scotland and it was sunny and in the 80s. The locals said it rarely gets that hot.
I would have no idea how to move them along. I remember walking on a path through pasture land. About eight cows were way over there in a little shed. I felt safe enough. As I grew closer on the trail, they all (ALL!) lumbered out to greet me. I stepped up my pace. They are gigantic!
Sharron, I don't know what I would've done if I were in your place coming across those Highland cows with their big horns.
Once while driving in Park city Utah in a little valley, an enormous moose, walked right in front of our little car. I couldn't tell if I was more frightened or honored to be able to see such a magnificent creature that close.
I can see how these buxom bovines could be intimidating, with their spiked head dress pointed right at you...glad you and your fearless leader, found your way to your destination, unharmed!! The music is lovely, and the cows, in their surrounding pastures, also have their own kind of beauty.
I spent almost two weeks in Scotland at the end of Sept. in 2022. It was my very first trip over the pond! I had been to Mexico, but that didn’t really count. I lived in southern AZ so it was a short drive to visit there back in the 70’s. (There were no walls back then either. But I digress)
The favorite parts of my trip to Scotland was the vastness of being able to see forever across large expanses of green pastures dotted with white sheep. I told myself when I get back home I’m going to do a water color painting using a wash of green with splotches of white-out to signify all the sheep!
But the real highlight came when the little tour bus encountered the Highland cows—very slowly crossing the road. I got the best picture during the whole of my trip of one of these magnificent creatures!
Thank you for the trip down memory lane and for the video!
Gail, I am so glad you shared your Scotland experience with us. Green fields, white sheep. I KNOW this vista well. And you got to see how huge they are close up, and so gentle. Wonderful memories. Those cows knew better than to mess with that woman.
And you knew to follow in the footsteps of a determined woman--becoming determined your own self!
What's that they say? When in Rome...
Rural Scottish women are truly a force to be reckoned with. Fearless. Cows know it.
Attitude is everything.
And that's life!
Rain, cows... just something rural Scots deal with every day of their lives. They are impervious.
What is it about cows that brings solace to the troubled heart. There really are contented cows ... or in this case, coos.
Heilan' coos. Really very gentle beasts. My mother tended cows and loved them.

You roll down the window and moo at them? ha ha ha
😂 Just about.
It seems you've become more woman, more Scotch, more self-initiated as you've matured. pfft! Those cows just couldn't see you well enough!
Impeded by a bit of highland mist!

Inspiring people, inspiring landscape. Great public transport. I hope you get there some day, Ron.
I remember seeing some on a "cow bridge" crossing over the freeway in Scotland.
I don't remember seeing you, though. 🤣
I was waiting out the rain in the local pub, no doubt. As if the rain ever stops...

Good thing that woman came along!
I definitely took advantage. She paid no attention to me.
wooleys have a mind of their own and out-weigh all of us put together )))

Wonderful storytelling, Sharron
Thank you, Barrie. I enjoyed your "Seven Year Itch" story this morning, too!
Thank you … an unaccustomed trip to the dark side for me!
Yes. It must be October....

They are all very sweet and gentle. Not a mean bone in their bodies. But such huge bodies! Yikes.
Love the “Heilan Coo’s”!
