Thank you, Janice. I have a few favorite chapters and this is one of them. The father / daughter relationship is a theme that threads through a lot of my writing. Since I never had one, I guess, and can only imagine. Thanks for reading at 🍁Leaves!
Thanks again, Janice. These characters became like real people to me. I only wanted the best for them. Not like in real life, I know, but I am a fool for happily ever after.
I spent a couple of years with those characters , Jim. I gave them, in the end, happy, uncomplicated lives. I figure there is enough meanness and violence in the world of fiction and in the world, so it is an intentionally old-fashioned benign tale. Come to think of it, most all my stories are about people somehow living together in peace. (Maybe some sort of residual optimism from my hippie days?) Anyway, something we can aspire to, and not a bad thing, if you ask me. I look forward to your next story. I wonder what is going on in Jim Cummings' head these days...
Oh... you will KNOW it all right. What you know will be hidden within the layers of story line. You will be in there. ( Even when I write about other planets or would-be boxers, it is autobiographical. ha ha ha)
One of my very favorites.

That makes perfect sense . . and would want it to turn out as Ayla and Bartle's did.

Amazing story. If anyone doesn't have the print copy, now is the time to get one. ))))))
Thanks, as always, Kate, for seeing the good in Bartle Clunes. He is like family to me now. Funny how that works. I hope you are well and happy!
Many of these chapters work as stand-alone stories. I love the relationship of Bartle and Louvina. Mature and respectful.
And , of course, we do love our mockingbirds!

No, not a bad thing at all!
I'm working on something that I will probably have to post in several chapters, (Not the period piece that we discussed.)
I'm ignoring the rule that says, "write what you know" on this one, probably at my own peril.
