He stands high above the water now, looking far below, his hands are in the wooly pockets of his coat.
The ice on the St-Lawrence has begun to break, the river, now running freely under the Champlain bridge, moves once again out toward the Atlantic. He breathes in frozen moonlight, his body is bitter cold. Her last words to him, sharp as a blade.
“Get out,” she’d hissed. “Get. Out!”
He didn’t need to ask her why. He knew why.

Oh gosh, this is bone chilling! Feels soooo real. x
I had three different interpretations of this piece after each read through - absolutely brilliant story telling and a real lesson in subtext (which I will now personally work to improve!) - thanks for an inspiring read.
