I had to smile, the eggs in the bread. My mother in law taught me to make them - what she called "frogs in a pond." They were a favorite in our house.

Aww. Thanks, Mark. You must have taken the day off to catch up on your reading! Me too. I took turns today - a little writing, a little reading, not much house cleaning or gardening... It can wait.

I love the layering of the characters. I would never have thought of him as an artist. And his taste in music, and poetry. A simple man with depth. I can't wait to discover what we'll find with her once you peel back the layers.

Yes, I did try to play against type whenever I could in this story, to make it less predictable. You may find some of the characters surprising - a long lost daughter, an old man who adopts a six year old boy, two lovable "spinsters", a jailbird. I am glad you found my little island here in the great Substack Sea, Ben. You are so welcome.

Eggs in a hole! My husband's favorite breakfast.

Still great.

I love the cozy bits that explore as much as any world-wide travel would!
