Thank you, Mitchell. How many times I have stood on a station platform as a non-stop express roared through and felt that SMACK of air? I real physical blow! Unforgettable.
I know, right? I even love the short rural rides on the Fort Bragg (CA) train and the Santa Cruz Roaring Camp train. The sound, the rocking, the scenery whizzing by. Magic!
With You in Spirit for the ride! I love trains. My GrandDad Popo was a brakeman and conductor on the P&LE Railroad. I grew up on trains, clacking-humming-swaying are natural to me, knew all the train songs, always wave to the engineers. Would be very contented living in a caboose. Thanks for the memories!
Oh great! Glad it woke up a little memory for you, Bonita! When I was 14 I rode on a train with my mom from Santa Cruz to North Dakota. Man! I loved that trip!
Thank you for the mention and for sharing this beautiful poem! I love traveling by train...wish I had the chance to travel in this fashion more frequently.
My mind went in a different direction. I was hoping she was along side the tracks rather than on them. When I worked at the PD, we had a case where a teenage girl committed suicide by walking in front of a train - that was 30 years ago - I never forgot.
Oh... sorry Janice, that you had to experience that. Yes, I can see how you might initially misinterpret this little story. Running along side the tracks, wanting to get on- that's me, metaphorically speaking.
Cool beans! Glad you liked it, Meg. These 50-word exercises are such good practice for learning to pare back my work to the essential. The rhyming, which I wanted to sound like a train's rhythm, felt too much like work.

Magnificent!
I will take "MAGNIFICENT" and post it on my calendar. I never had a magnificent before. It is heartening. Thank you, Bill!
Nice!
Thanks Jim. Short, but full of meaning for me. Glad you liked it.
I'm set like a rock. Gathering moss. I've been a driver. Found my spot. Staying. ))
You have had a long (long long long long) life. There is a time for everything. Right?
Wow!
That’s an interesting one.
What’s going on?
I am sorely missing getting out on the rails, and lamenting that I never will again. boo hoo.
I love this one! I'm a train nut. So perfectly described.
Me, too! Just one more thing we have in common, Heather. Thanks!
Another great one, Sharron! You continue to inspire.
Wheeeee! Thank you.
Trains are captivating to me, for some reason. Since I was a boy. They still are.
Oh, me too! I never rented a car in my Euro travels. All train rides. I was so lucky. How I miss it!
Trains are a relaxing way to travel.
Sit back, lay your head against the window and watch the world roll by.
Train, train, take me anywhere! There's something about those clacking wheels.

Oh yes, me too! I love going anywhere by train. You'll have more of a chance some day, Justin. Your kids would sure love it!

Love the rhythm and rhyme of the second to last line. 💜
