I learned about "meet cute" in the movie, The Holiday, when Eli Wallach explained it to Kate Winslet. (Charming pair, BTW) Those two words together, though, mystify me. How did they decided upon those two? Oh well. Hollywood works in strange ways.
I found one photo and then l found another one to match. A very brief imagining, but I could actually see it happening. I wanted to BE the woman in this story.
I tend to have several Japanese gardens in my own yard. Usually surrounding a Japanese maple, but often just with the cement pagodas and moss or whatever. I'd share pictures but I write this on my {C and pics are on my iPhone!
This is so darned sweet, Sharron! The urge to snap a photo of a lovely girl…her noticing, reacting. It’s a conversation without words, and it looks like they will learn more about each other soon. All because of a click, they clicked! 💞
Ah, you are a dreamer, Justin. I love that about you. I wish I could write a "happily-ever-after" story, but it is hard. Your stories are often open-ended, too.
Thanks, Sharron. I love those types of endings! Letting the reader interpret the story and decide its outcome is such a fun approach, and you always execute it beautifully.
You created one of those "meant to be" moments where the universe steps in to bring the right couple together at the right time. Your last lines are always the cherry on top of the ice cream sundae, Sharron.
Thank you, Matt. I'm still trying to perfect the short ones. I win some and lose some. I really enjoy the short form and I especially go to your fragments for excellent models.
And they develop the film in a dark room with wide eyed exposure.
Oh yes! I hope so. Thanks Richard
I love the level of anticipation built into your stories, Sharron.
Thank you, Sue. "Meet cute" , I believe it is called, and open-ended so you can imagine it unfolding any way you want.

What a cool first meeting.

Probably the 50 and 100 word stories are the hardest to write, but they are worth it. Thank you….
The short format is my favorite - to read and to write. I am so glad "Flash Fiction" has become an accepted genre.
Thanks for always finding the right pictures to go with the words. That has to take even longer than re- re- re- writing. )))
It does take a while, but I tell you, Kate, I will NEVER resort to images made by AI. They are instantly recognizable and make me queasy.
💚💚💚
Thanks, Jack. A one-minute romantic interlude. It can't hurt.
Exposed to one another--how do we react?
I adore the photo of the Japanese garden! My style!
The photo is of the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. A beautifully tended fantasy landscape.

It sounds lovely.
No internet in this part of Michigan all morning. A strange new reality How fine to return to the simplicity of the Japanese garden
You really captured that moment.
Thank you, Mark. A brief romance never comes amiss.

It was a moment I, personally, would like to have participated in... I still have so many fantasies rolling around in my brain.
"She smiles and waits." Beautiful "snapshot," Sharron. Love your sense of romance.
Thanks, Jim. I will be a fool for love until my dying breath. Apparently.
tis you.. who is & embodies.. -> ‘the true romantic..
& just imagine the framed photo diptych they could create 🦎🏴☠️💋
I sense the wheels turning in your one-of-a-kind head, Tinder. Mission accomplished.
OK, I'm hooked again. Can't wait to hear what happens.
It will be whatever you make it, Kathleen. You are a romantic, too. It is obvious.
Absolutely I just wish I could write like you do. I enjoy your writing so much.
Thank you for these kind words, Kathleen. You've made my day!
A lovely moment captured! And who knows where it will lead? I’m thinking somewhere pleasant and hopefully everlasting.

I am learning from the masters: Justin Deming, Jim Cummings, Bryan Pirolli, J. Curtis, Tom Cornfoot. So much treasure to be found on Substack!
It’s a two way road, my friend. Thank you. Know that I learn just as much from you! (And thanks for including me with those other fine writers!)
👍🏻
Imagination… work your magic!
A short bit of inspiration for us tender-hearted, sentimental ones. ❤️

Aw, thank you KC.❤️
Very nicely done.

Oh, I think you have really quite an obvious talent at the shorter length. I'm very flattered that the Fragments inspire you in your efforts.
