Twelve Euros to watch The Fisher King? OUCH!!!! One of the worst films I've seen, ever! And that was in the olden times when I did go to the movies (last time I did that was in 2002). Otherwise, yet another five-star job! GOOO GOOO Sharon!
Italy is a fabulous country and everything Italian is the epitome of taste and Beauty. If you ignore certain of her attributes (e.g. the Mafia, general dislocation when it comes to running a country etc) it is perhaps one of the very best places in the world to live. I drove twice from Switzerland from the top to bottom of the boot, and back, with my first US wife in the early 80s and still vividly remember how much I loved the place (and I am a difficult person when it comes to likes and dislikes of other places). And the food!!!!!!! Mama Mia!!!!
The Manhattans hearken back to my Italian-American in-laws. They offered them at every dinner get-together. Now one of the grandsons (my boy) has taken over the tradition. Thank you for asking, but, no, the only thing I have ever written about my work in Italy were my three Sardinian posts. I am pretty sure that details of the work would be of interest only to other teacher trainers...
Oh dear. Only part of an old movie....drats. Not likely to find little baggies of corn or soybeans "grown and packed in Lowell Indiana". So you have to make do with prunes and pigeons. And gorgeous scenery and an Italian dictionary. (which you've already memorized to be able to work there). Can I miss Indiana when I'm still here? sometimes...
Yes, I believe you can miss Indiana when you are still there. I am still in Santa Cruz and miss the Santa Cruz of the 1970s... Things are changing all around me and I am still the same, just older.
You certainly conveyed the mood suggested in the title. I can imagine how alone one must feel on a drizzly Sunday in a country far from home. I would buy a bag of oranges and stop at the Baby Bar for a couple of Peroni's.
Comfort is found in the oddest way sometimes. And by the way... don't bother with the Fisher King. Unless you are a hard core Jeff Bridges or Robin Williams fan, it is absolutely forgettable.
Very nice, Sharron! I think I can identify with your travel funk. At the train station in Rotterdam I found an RC Cola and a Hershey Bar. I needed something familiar. Just sat down and took my time. It tasted great.

Thank you, AT. There is still so much about Italy that remains a mystery to me. Maybe that is why I like it there? Thanks for the ⭐️s!

I just bought some prunes here yesterday! Seriously, yes, I understand what it's like to miss your home and how food reminds one of it....
I understand. And that is why you often cook Tunisian or Moroccan foods, right? I often seek comfort in my mother's potatoes, sausages, cabbage.
Nothing like a few prunes from California with your Manhattan (reminding you of NY?).
Have you written about your work in Italy? I'd love a glimpse into that...

Well, if you ever decide to add your creative touch to your work days, I suspect it would be delightful.
I'm thinking you are a Vodka girl...
Gin is my choice of poison...
Wandery Sunday indeed
With all your own world travels, Kenneth, you can relate, I am sure! Thank you.
Great evocation of the atmosphere. I felt drizzly and cold just reading this!
Thank you, Terry. Cozy up on the sofa with an afghan ( blanket, not canine) and have a cup of tea. The chill will pass.
😃

Molto piacevole, Sharron!
Tante grazie dalla Bassano alla Palmisano.

Rats! Too bad you weren't there when I was. We could have skipped the movie altogether and spent the €24 on foreign fruit and booze.
I am reminded of being in China - it was only for three weeks, but that MacDonalds breakfast never looked or tasted so good.
Yes, exactly so! I remember stopping in at Wendy's in Milan a couple of times during my six month posting.
This is beautiful, Sharron!
I've never seen 'The Fisher King', but regardless of the film I too would have wanted my money's worth! How absolutely extraordinary!
I'm so glad you found a taste of home in those prunes.

🤣 Duly noted - thanks, Sharron!
I would love to visit Milan. I have no desire to eat a prune though. Or a date. Those items bear too close a resemblance to a dead cockroach.
eeuuuww! prune and date consumption is not mandatory there, fortunately...

Understood! I often kept Rolos in my jacket pocket when hiking through the highlands of Scotland!
I love Milan but not its prices. Esorbitante really truly unbelievable 🤨
