Every time I read bits and pieces of this original story, I love it more. It speaks to me of a kinder, gentler , more loving time which seems to be missing today.

Well, yes, I feel that way too. Everyone is in such a muddle these days. Thanks Janice

I loved what happened with Eizer and Merlene and the boys ... all of them following along learning how to be good men.

Thank you, Sue, for this sweet comment. Not many of my subscribers have dared jumping into the book from start to finish. I keep trying to lure them in one chapter at a time! ha ha ha. The relationship between Eizer and the little boy is my favorite one.

I still have my copy right here by my chair so I can pick it up again some day and enjoy that friendly world you created in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. It's a very comfortable story to read in that the conflicts that arise are real, but they don't jar one's heart so much that nightmares ensue. I guess it's weird to say that, but I've even gotten bad dreams from reading the news. Is that a curse of a writer? To visualize? Anyway, ...

I think it’s the reality of the writer.

Thank you, Jill. Every once in a while I re-post a chapter of Bartle Cluens as an invitation to read it.. You can find more about life in the foothill in 1949 with Eizer and Eli, beginning at chapter 26. https://sharronbassano.substack.com/p/bartle-clunes-chapter-26 . Or you could start at chapter one. ha ha ha. Happy day to you

I am just learning how to navigate Substack and I’m still a preschooler! 76 and it’s difficult to figure out how to do this but I love it so authentic and thank you so much for replying. I didn’t even know I could reply.🤭

I hear you, Jill. It is tricky learning how to get anywhere on Substack( for my old brains too). I have been on here for three years and am still poking around trying to find everything. It is a little frustrating, but so worth it. So much good stuff.

Yes, I JUST have understood that I can not only comment but can dialog!! I would like to read Bartle Cluens from Chapter 1, but don't yet know how to navigate there ...And your note about being on Substack for three years!! Wow. I have been on for about 3 months...or two... so just at the infant stage. It is encouraging as I only became an author, as opposed to a writer, 3 years ago with a traditional publisher. That publisher is not surviving in this Amazon-dominated world, so I am white-caning my way around and have found this--how lovely!

Oh, I remember this beautiful post! You've described everything in such gorgeous detail - I feel I've really got to know both Eizer and his landscape. And his kindness to Eli - ahhhhhhhhh, wonderful stuff.

Wow, Rebecca, you are really in the reading mode today! I see you are catching up. It s a real challenge - for me, too. Thanks for this kind comment.

Awww thanks, Sharron! To be honest I’m really struggling with my energy at the moment, and while I much prefer to keep up with my Substack reading every day, I’m now devoting bigger chunks of time less often. The fact that I’m missing out on my daily reading makes me sad - but it’s wonderful to have a stack of really super posts to read when I come here! 😘

I feel the same. It is overwhelming sometimes, but most of it is excellent writing. I only subscribe to 19 and just can’t take on any others, more’s the pity! I know I am missing out, but there are only 24 hours in a day…
