The texture of couture collects a wave to all expressions that cross Santa Cruz town. Behind the cascades each must have a story to tell. Some you probably captured. The rest we wait for the next fashionable day. Good show and tell.
I'm tall enough (6ft) that wearing plaid heavy shirt and jeans to just about anywhere, the clerks don't even look up and call me Sir. Ordered fries at 5Guys.."sir". Paint at hardware store.."sir". Groceries..."sir". I shall take that as a sign of respect instead of slightly condescending "miss" now that I'm nudging 80. )) Long white hair (no beard) is good for both. I just smile and don't correct. I'm collecting locations for my notebook. hehehehehe. Our town is too small for bus except the yellow kid collectors at 8 noon and 3.
from below: "cascades"....thought that might be views of mountains, "behind" meaning west. SantaCruz is west of mountains but they are still visible yes?
No beard! ha ha ha. Santa Cruz is bordered by the sea to the south, agricultural fields to the east, the coast road to the north west, and the Santa Cruz mountains to the north. A variety of terrain.
Faux couture: or is it faux anymore? Obviously not on the bus line in Santa Cruz...a bit more faux, in Michigan spelled folks cults lure (kidding but just so) less and less couture!
Folks! Funny! My brother went into a shoe shop in Nevada and was looking at some lovely boots. The clerk told him they were made of fox leather. My brother said, "Gee, I didn't know they made leather from fox hides!" Later, he read the tag.... faux leather.
Hilarious…. You’ve captured the essence of Santa Cruz… at least the six wheel riders. I tell visitors they will notice three things about the people in Santa Cruz. They wear dark clothing. Grey, black, blue, green, mostly hoodies, and jeans. They drive a Tesla, Subaru Outback, or Prius mostly. They lean left politically.
OMG! Sharron, we were all so sedate and dull back in the 70s when I lived there. At least my tribe was. Then there was the black Baha'i who got on Larry Cramblett's bus on Halloween dressed as a Massai warrior, complete with spear. He was a legend, but I never got the privilege of meeting him. Sadly, his name has been lost from my mental Rolodex along with so many others.
I loved this post, Sharron. Laughed all the way through it. I have to ask: is the Man in Black the same character who met and was mesmerized by the beautiful albino girl? They walked off into the Santa Cruz maze with heads together. Have you seen them again. I hope the romance continues. That's was a lovely story.
Your Masai warrior, I believe, was called Kenny. A very unusual man. And no I have never seen that oddly matched light/dark couple again. I keep my eyes open, though. Thanks for riding the bus with me today.
I guess fashion is in the eye of the wearer. What a fascinating venture you are taking us on what wonderful descriptions you provide. To me, it sounds just right for Santa Cruz - how's that for a generalization?
I love your take on what's hot on the Metro fashion scene, in our quirky city! Really, when that sticker in the local souvenir shop says, "Keep Santa Cruz Weird", they mean it! ha ha
Your descriptive writing puts me on that bus with that diverse lot. Baggy shorts and flip-flops are the rage for men of all ages here, no matter the temperature. A history of skin cancer keeps me in jeans and long-sleeved shirts---no matter the temperature.
Oh, Sharron! I LOVE how you embody these observations with such fabulous descriptive language! I am DESPERATE to ride the Metro with you and I promise I shall dress for the occasion. Save me a seat?
'Freak-flags have been flying continuously in this town since 1967' - they need to put this on the highway signs!
Terrific! It is like a little circus out there on public transportation, Linda. You never know what you will find. I admit, some of the riders seem funnier after I get home and think about it.

Thanks, Richard!
“”façades” not cascades.
Did you know that you can go back and edit any comment you have left, Richard? Just click on the three little dots in the right margin of your post.
Tried I get options but not to edit. More like delete .
Sorry. I think we had this conversation before...
Yes. Repeat performance. We’re both on stage. I hope sun stack takes notice of inadequacy of response times. Corrects with new vision.

Looks like you've got it all. ))))

I always enjoy your bus rides and the denizens of Santa Cruz!
Thanks, Ron. It is a new show every five minutes on the Metro.

Yes. And the cannabis, don't forget the cannabis... at all socio-economic levels.

Yes, Kenny. Tish had a crush on him as I recall.

An apt generalization, if you ask me.
Great description, and wrapping it up with describing your own "fashion" sense as an older rider!
Thanks, Linda. Look what you have to look forward to when you are no longer driving...

Sure does! Hardly any clothing choices surprise me anymore.
You’re so good at observing! It’s a pleasure to read your remarks🥰
Thank you, Yael. And, yes, it is all observation here... no embellishing. ha ha ha!

Smart man.
I think I like the tattoo’s girl in the flirty ruffled dress …
Always love these fabulously detailed pieces of people watching, Sharron.
Thanks Barrie. Since I have to ride the bus, I might as well pay attention, right?
Multitasking!

Okay! Bring your striped leggings and the hat you wear camping. Oh! And hiking boots are de rigueur.
YES!!! There’s a purple feather boa kicking around here somewhere, too…..
Exquisite choice!
There is no outfit which a feather boa cannot improve. But which colour? 🤔
shocking pink or emerald green … or both
Love this series. People watching is a wonderful pastime. Thanks for sharing, always leaves me with a smile 😃

Yes. A lot of crazy stuff out there on public transportation. A different world. Thanks for reading, Linda!
