Ηmmm... Betty is probably off her rocker... and that's, in fact, a major asset when one is trying to be a writer. I've seen it in practice. A touch of schizophrenia is a blessing for the ones wishing to wade into deep waters (although the majority watching would think he/she who claims that is, too, off his/her rocker.)
Writers talk to themselves and here voices all the time because they're conversing with their characters, right? When their characters stop talking, the story is finished.
Love this, Sharron. I, too, as another did, wondered if it's a glimpse into a novel you're writing. I'm torn, though, bc it feels like it's its own complete story, the beauty of it being are the questions readers have after. Well done, and you are quite welcome! Hugs!
Golly. Apparently I did not make myself very clear here! I intended it as a 100-word comic piece on Substack novice writers... the "Heathton on the cliff" story was BETTY'S, not mine. Eeeps!
I’ve gotta get off Substack for a while, need to “get a move on” and get out to Cincinnati to visit my bff who is having health challenges😘. I will miss commenting on my favorite Substacks! Tribute ditty to Sharron:
Today it’s spiders… what will she come up with tomorrow!? What stories are being stirred up by “writing angels” in her whipsmart brain - where she sees characters (as on a movie reel, perhaps?) Characters, plots, intrigue to lead her readers’ minds off in unexpected avenues and directions - in mere fifty words!
My little writing group had as its challenge this week to write a paragraph for the worst of all possible novels, specifically including "dark and stormy' , following in the tradition of The Bulwer Lytton Annual Fiction Contest. I was, however, compelled to give writing credit to a woman named Betty... rather than take responsibility myself. Ha ha ha.
Had Betty just read Wuthering Heights? I think she was channeling Heathcliff and Catherine 😅
I think so too.

Poor Betty. She has a harsh reality to face in her future

Exactly. Although if you wait long enough, sometimes they come back with more. Sometimes.
I thought she was rushing to him before he left the edge.... to push him off. THAT would be a good start to the whole story of how he got there. ))
That would more likely be a story I'd write, not Betty. ha ha
You always leave me hanging…. 😊. Great pic….
Aw, Betty.... she is having so much fun starting out her writing career. Poor lass. Thanks for sending Connie's photos my way!
I'd like to read the preceding chapters, and the following ones. Good set up, Sharron. Soon on Substack?
No way, James. That is Betty's gothic story, not mine... I will leave it at that. Ha ha ha

No, you were clear, Sharron. I think the other person's comment led me to consider the possiblity it was part of a larger piece.
Now I’m wondering if this is a spoof of novice writers AND a spoof of Wuthering Heights?! 🧐🤔
Novice writers for sure ( myself included) and gothic novels in general...
Your writing is amazing!! It’s Not novice now!!!
Is this an announcement of coming events?
Ha ha ha! Nope. Just a spoof on poor delusional "Betty" who has dreams of becoming a famous romance writer...

Aw, thanks Karen. I hope your trip has room for a little joy in it... along with snow and your friend's troubles. You will, no doubt, cheer her up.
Forget BEtty, Write yours. )))
Oh Sharron, this is fabulous! Oh Heathton, oh Cathy - sorry, I mean Rachel..... hang on a second! 🤣

Ha!!!!
I gotta tell ya, I was worried for Heathton. 😳
Ha ha ha. Another commenter said Rachel should have run up to him and pushed him off. Put him out of his misery.
That's just cruel; I feel your pain, Heathton!
Ha ha ha
Ah, the dream. Go for it, Betty. Maybe you will beat the odds.
You think? Who's kidding who here? Hah!
