Thanks for re-posting this. You have a wonderful knack for setting the scene and drawing the reader along with you on your adventures. Scotland sounds beautiful.
A beautiful Scottish roam! I lived north of Adrian's Wall for four years (Edinburgh and environs) and have good memories. Beautiful vistas and down-to-earth people. And they do dislike those to the south. Overall, a time to remember fondly!
I'm so glad you had that experience, Mr Symeonidis! I have to say I have traveled a lot, and seen so many beautiful things, but Scotland made me feel at home the first time I set foot on highland soil. I never wanted to go anywhere else after that first trip and made eleven extended trips there. It is a beautiful country with beautiful people.
I haven't been to Scotland. I know it is a beautiful place and you describe it so well. Liked how land owners might just make it a little tough to access their properties.. I once rounded a hill and came across a "bull in the pasture". Was fortunate that it did not take offense at my being on his turf. I was scared. Thanks for writing!
Still enjoy these stories, especially of Scotland! (PS Not to get too political, but I wonder if the former president's golf course there is open for people to walk across!)
Sure! Three-day golf package only $2,200. Ha ha ha. But Scots are tenacious. They won't be stopped. If the fences are too high, the gates locked, they will come around by row boat just to make a point! I haven't heard of any further troubles.
I've actually been to Scotland. My favorite place was the Shetland Islands - probably Lerwick it was a stop on a cruise. But there was also a train ride to a battlefield, and we went to Edinburgh. Beautiful country.
Ah, the "light highland mist" - a cue to get SOAKED!
I really enjoyed this post, Sharron - a great (and hilarious!) read. I'm looking forward to my next trip over the border, whenever that might be!
There was a news story here just last week about an altercation between a landowner and a dog walker exercising not only his hound but his 'right to roam'. OFF the lead. In a FIELD OF SHEEP WITH LAMBS.... 🙄 The dog walker claimed that his right to roam meant that his dog didn't have to be ON a lead. I despair of people sometimes!
I have little hope for the human species, Rebecca.... we are capable of such monumental idiocy and ego-mania. I hope the moron was fined and shamed. But, then ... Scotland! I'd be daydreaming on the shores of Loch Awe right this minute if I could.
I'm not a traveler, but if given opportunity, Scotland would be high on the list...right after the Victoria and Albert Museum in England. Small towns and glorious fields sound like home. ONce tried to shoo a bull back to his own farm next door from the field he didn't belong in. Farmer later told me never do that. Bulls take offense and make hash of shooers. This one did shoo past his own barn to the horizon. I did keep him off the highway so was pleased with myself anyway. Apparently it is legal here to shoot renegade livestock and put the meat in your own freezer, as payment for not allowing the critter to attack traffic and make lawsuits. Won't do that either. I'll just phone the farmer now I've got his number. Got my sunday shoes all muddy for my trouble. A "soft morning" you say.... pleasant with the right clothes. )))
Sharron, I may have to pre post my adventures for advice to avoid altercations! (i.e. bovine meet ups!) Encountering the reason for the warning would be a memorable lesson!
Darn it! It is funny how that happens! I am here, then I am there and now I am back here again sitting in the Laz-E-Boy with a glass of gin. Sigh... it is a good life. I can't wait until they invent the teleporter so we can just pop across for a day. What do you reckon - next year?
Some would call it a wasted trip, but I would say it was all good even without the gin. Things are changing really fast, but a year would be pushing it a bit. We can hope though.

Thanks,Jim. I would sure like to go back there for a while.

It truly is! And the Scots are unbeatable !
A braw and canny lot, as they say.

Except for the bulls in pastures, Scotland is mostly delightful. Thank you James!

So glad you got the chance to visit there. And Shetland! A very unusual landscape -- and such winds! I loved it there, too.

Chasing a bull.... on purpose. You are far braver than I. You deserved to be pleased with yourself!

Okay! I will let you test the hypothesis and you get back to me.
It was great taking the trip with you even if we did take detours and ended up exactly where we started from.
