Fabulous to see your excellent storytelling featured … ‘top in fiction’ indeed, Sharron. There’s always room for a little bit of celebrating yourself! Well-deserved.
Not a "sounds" person here. Man on the lake made me listen. Quiet enough, gentle enough to Not trigger migraine. I knew he wouldn't. I used to sing, and play Chopin. Thread and flower gardens are quiet. I don't remember where this one came from. Maybe he'll hear it when the sun sets.
Congratulations, Sharron. And this post will undoubtedly join the others.
Honeymoons should last a long time before the tears and fears show up in the conversations. Have we become each other's therapists? I don't know. So simple and beautiful is this poem and the song too, as clear and smooth as that lake.
"I’ll never ask you to sing me your tears." I loved this line, loved the entire poem but that line stood out as particularly touching and telling. I'm so happy that you are receiving some well-deserved recognition through "Top in Fiction." I hope this inspires you to keep inspiring us!
Thank you, again, Jim. I always appreciate your comments. You writing anything these days? I am still waiting for your story about the immigrant maid...😊
I have seventeen stories partially written but nothing close to finished. I guess you could say I'm in a writing funk right now. I've turned my attention to building/fixing stuff around here and hoping I can get some mojo back. Leaving on a Bahamas cruise on Sunday. If eating and drinking excessively is the cure, I'll be back with some great writing!
Thank you, Al. I am planning to go through all my substack stories soon and deleting a bunch of them ( I have them in a notebook, anyway). I just want to keep the ones that I am proud of on line. I think I have improved in two and a half year. I hope so, anyway...
Poetry that rhymes. I like it:). This line is incredible, Sharron: "I’ll never ask you to sing me your tears." I like the idea of starting fresh, but it's the anger, tears, and bad decisions that have made us who we are.
Well, yes. This “song” is about young people who don’t know that yet. And they don’t know you can't outrun the “baggage”. You just learn to live with it.

Thank you, Barrie! Some news is just too nice to keep all to myself.
It’s so nice to be catching up with the news … gently reading myself back in.
Sweet! And with rhymes... :)
Rhymes, yes! I actually thought of you when I put this little thing together. Thanks!

Will you still love me
when I'm home from the war...
Throw your arms round me
Like so often before...
and will you remember
its you I adore..
Will you still love me
My sweet Elinor.
A sweet, nostalgic song, Kate. Sounds like 1940s... I am glad you liked the one by Hozier. One of my old favorites.
Very nice, Sharron, and congrats on your awards!
Thank you, Ron. Hope you are enjoying your California summer, my friend. I imagine you sitting out in the back yard watching the lizards...
You're welcome, Sharron! Could use some seaside temps today. 95° here. The lizards are taking the day off. : )

Thanks, Sue, I confess that I wrote that poem as a excuse for posting the song. We can find our inspiration anywhere, right?
Sure can.

Yeah. Take a spiral notebook and pencil with you... have a great time!
I’m very happy for you to get those well deserved rewards, Sharron. Your work is really good.
I especially love the Machair stories. Many thanks for sharing with us your knowledge of the Gaelic language.

Not at all surprised you won those awards. Well deserved.
Thank you, Linda, so much!
Beautiful, flowing, in-the-moment love poem! And I am impressed…congratulations! 🤩
Thanks!
If self-congratulation isn't your thing, then I hope you'll accept it from others: well done, Sharron. Keep on writing the good write. x

I was taking it too seriously. I gotta learn how to have fun.:)
