Yes, thank you, Jim, and I am grateful for three things. 1.) That the technology today allowed us to preserve the recordings on CDs. 2.) That my brother knew how to send the music files to me via email. and 3.) That Substack provides such a flawlessly simple way to upload them to my post. I have limitations in what I can manage on line, but Substack made me feel very competent. Yay!
Thank you for sharing your treasure of such wonderful songs. It is lovely to be able to hear your mother's voice after reading so many of your stories about her life. Because the songs are such period pieces it is also deep dive into living history. "Bravo!" to your mother Katy. Marina
I promised her I would write about her life as best I could, but I don't imagine she thought I would go so far as to bring out the old recordings. I just hope that others, besides her family, will find some pleasure in visiting these old days. Thanks so much, Marina, for reading my tales.
Oh Sharron, just wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! Enjoying this post in words, pictures and sounds has been the highlight of my Saturday afternoon. What a terrific musical legacy. Thank you so much for sharing Katy's beautiful music.
She was a woman who only completed the eighth grade - and in a less than adequate country school, but she had many talents and a determination to be independent. Who knows what she could have done with a little help and encouragement. I am so glad you enjoyed her little musical story, Rebecca. And so grateful to Substack for making it even possible.
What a treasure! It is amazing how technology has brought these to your site today decades after she recorded them. My dad and his brother did several of those records and we appreciate hearing their voices too. What memories - to keep their voices not only in our hearts but actually in our ears as well. And all because she did her brother's chores that day!
Thank you Gulch Boy. Yes, I can too. Uncanny. I appreciate so much your helping me with the tech side of this. I could not have done it without you, my sweetheart.
I’m in bed (wife is asleep and son is too in between us), so I didn’t get a chance to listen. But I’m going to come back to this tomorrow and give a listen - can’t wait! I think it’s amazing that you have these recordings after all these years.
Sharron, what a wonderful gift to us anonymous readers. Thank you so much for sharing your mother's singing with us. What treasures are these audio files!
I am so pleased you liked them, Jenise! I was hoping someone other than family would find this music of value - even in its rough, antique condition. Thank you
Cowboy songs are the best. Your recordings sound fine. Like hearing them on a static filled far-off radio station driving down the highway late at night. They are still good songs. A great story. Thanks for writing it, Sharron!
Thank you so much, James, for your comments. I am glad you could hear through the static. I find them quite moving, but, then, Katy was my mother. It makes me so happy that others find her voice of interest. I love the name of your publication. Much of my own writing is getting things down "before I forget". I promised Katy I would write as much of her life as I can remember. So far so good. Thanks for dropping by! I will check out your home page.
Lovely. You are so lucky to have these recordings.

Sharron, What a wonderful legacy Katy left you. I credit my Mom with kindling my love affair with music.
Some of the lessons they taught us really stick. And sometimes we don't realize it until they are gone. Was your mother a musician too?
Not really. She just listened to music all the time and sometimes she would sing. along. Certain songs bring back sweet memories of her.

Thank you. Linda, for your sweet comment. I surely would like to hear the ones you have of your dad and uncle!
I can hear your voice in Mom's so clearly. Thanks Sis, for this remembrance.
Love, Benny

Beyond beautiful. You have captured her life in a way we will have her with us forever! Thank you, Sharron.
Oh thank you. You are so sweet to say that -- it was a group effort..

Yes. They were just stashed away in a box for years. I guess we waited until the technology caught up with us to make it possible to share them.
I finally had a chance to listen and the tracks are amazing. What a beautiful voice! 🎶
She was a sweetheart! We will love her forever. Thanks, Justin, for having a listen through all the static.
