Yeah. He was just kidding. But walking home alone at night is a lot different for a child or a woman than for a man. Nothing to joke about! You know first hand. Glad you liked the contrasting endings.

The guy in Barley Lane would get some magic mushrooms in his supper! Always keep some Puff Ball in the freezer, and Hen of the Woods fried up with onions and butter... little packages in the freezer. Shhhh... dry some "magics" in the spice cabinet.

Yow! Now.... is that punishment for scaring her? Or a gift for always showing up to walk her home?

Good ones - both endings too!

Thank you, Linda. I have got nothing done all week. Just writing. Oh well...

Sharron, this comment has really made me laugh! Writing is EVERYTHING!!!!! 🙌♥️😍

One would think that, considering the state of my house... Good thing I live alone.

Liked these, Sharron!

Re Silk Street - "Take this job and shove it!"

Re Barley Lane - He is lucky she didn't have Silk Street's break room knife in hand. : )

Ha ha ha! Right you are! Fortunately both were happy endings with only minor hitches... she is out of a job. He may get canned beans for his dinner tonight.

Two happy endings that could have gone the other way. Love these, Sharron. So much with so few words.

I appreciate the use of Terry's photos. I have two more from the London: Night series to work with this week. When I study these "unpopulated" photos, I simply look for what is not there.

I love bleak, unpopulated photos. Some years ago I even started an empty bench series. I think it's time to unveil a couple. Feel free to use them if you wish, they will appear in my Start The Week #49

I will. We may become collaborators. In the good sense of the word, that is.

Yes, very much so

Ha! Silk Street sounds exactly like a stunt I'd pull 😁

I believe you would, Kristi, because you are naughty! She can find another job, right? One where she can maintain her self-respect.

AS long as she was actually expecting him and happy to have him to escort her home in the dark.... the favorite mushrooms from the back yard. There's morells and Lion's Mane and Chicken of the Woods... the big orange ones. Yeah, that's it )))

“recalculating…recalculating…”

That’s what I was doing at the end of these!

Loved them.

Thanks for navigating over to 🍁Leaves! Glad you liked the mini stories. ( Your name is John? I call you Dalton, but I know that is not right.)

Yes it is!

Hi Sharron, How clever - what a great approach.

Thanks so much for reading, Janice. I just read YOURS. You and I will no doubt get nothing done today... but I don't care.

Great stories, Sharron. Both endings are perfect!

Thanks, Justin. I sure liked Terry's photos. I have two more to work with this week. Happy holiday to you and to all the Demings who love you back there along the Hudson.

Great stories, Sharron! I especially love the Silk Street one :-)

Glad you approve, Terry. I have borrowed two others - Shoreditch graffiti and Libreria for Saturday. Hope that's okay! I look forward to seeing your benches. How about doors? You have any painted doors?

Expand full comment

I do have a door. Will try to find it! Of course I approve, it's very flattering

Sharron, you're a wonder - I loved both of these soooo much.

'Her boss is a lizard....'

And that complete about-turn in the second story - wow, just wow! I'd feared for her life.... and hey, that's not the situation at all. Beautiful.

Thanks for being such a loyal reader, Rebecca. I don't know how you keep up reading with your busy life. I do like to pretend that I am pencilled onto your do-do list somewhere.

I thoroughly enjoy your posts, Sharron - your words are always a pleasure to read. 😘

"Her boss is a lizard, always expecting her to work late, overwhelming her with impossible tasks, laying his reptilian hands on her." Excellent characterisation! 😅

Ahhh and that second one, clever change of routine! Funny guy :)

Thank you, Alexander. I really appreciate your comments! In the second one, I think she should have called him a name at the end there, for jumping out of the hedge and scaring her, but I didn't know what was appropriate. Dickbrain? Sweetheart? Moron? Wanker?

Expand full comment

Tricky... maybe Fartbrain? 'Cause his idea cleary was a brain fart. :)

Never heard that one! Pretty funny!

Relieved for both women. Well done.
