Man can I relate to this, I have struggled with my weight my whole life. Eat Less, Exercise more. I have advice for success in the stock market too, Buy low, sell high.

I am with you, Scott. It is a curse. Battles can be won, but the war goes on forever. Sigh...

Market~~~ I learned in class project: 1.check the Wall Street Journal from the library before class, then make the choice. Its the Martha Stewart system. Its not just recipes. Works every time. 2. Never bet more than the cash in your hand. 3. Remember its all smoke and mirrors.

Love this Sharron!!

I am in the process of letting go of things, and your story hit home. You always had the knack for clearing out the irrelevant.

Having recently moved, I had the advantage of seeing my accumulation of 50 plus years - in real time! Still looking at boxes of stuff not needed but too “good” to donate. Herein lies the problem.“Too good” is a relative term. Sure, someone somewhere would find this useful or beautiful. Meanwhile it’s sitting in a box in my garage.

That’s where I am at this point. I had a big sale and watched people walk off happily with my junk/their treasures. I was left exhausted and still with things left behind.

Any words of advice would be much appreciated. A mantra for letting go of things?

I am overly concerned with items going to the right source or person. Should I be less attached & just say goodbye & drop off at the nearest donation site? Or look for a collector of old vinyl records of sea shanties?

Ask yourself : "Does this thing bring me joy?" "Have I used it in the past year?" If the answer is no, pack it in your car, drop it off as a donation. Tomorrow you won't even remember what it was, I promise -- you'll just feel a thousand pounds lighter. My guess is your kids do not want any of it. Good luck.

PS: Congrats on your weight loss!!

Getting lighter in all ways :-)

Yes, congrats! I think I might keel over just looking at macaroni and cheese on top of a baked potato. 😀

I believe it is called a carbohydrate stupor, if I am not mistaken.

I almost let go of my breakfast looking at that picture of a tub full of Spaghetti Os. Hahaha! So gross! 🤣

What a delightful read, Sharron, and congrats to you on your accomplishments! I’m happy for you!

It is pretty gross, isn't it? Imagine the fun they had prepping for that photo. Now that I think about it, if someone else jumped into that tub with her, it could be very ... um...arousing. But that's just me.

They were probably cracking up the whole time, ha!

One of my earliest school memories is of a classmate projectile vomiting Spaghettios everywhere. It was quite the barf-o-rama.

Needless to say, I’ve been scarred ever since. 🤣

Congrats on getting rid of so much stuff! That's hard to do. That picture - Wow!

Getting rid of stuff is easy for me. Getting rid of pounds? Not so much.

It's always satisfying to get rid of things you don't need. I find it poignant that you do so with your son in mind too. As for the weight loss advice, "Eat less, exercise more" ... I think I'll get a second opinion.

Congrats on that too. It ain't easy.

I like that second opinion idea. Let me know what you find out.

Keeping this beautiful post forever. Amazing. Your advice is gold dust, Sharron, and oh boy am I going to take action! Great news on your weight loss - AND for the big loss of STUFF, too. I have stuff coming out of my ears here at home... I need to follow your lead.

Just six months ago I was wearing way smaller clothes than I am now. Ten years before that I chucked out all of my bigger stuff. And then: BOOOOOOM!!! Turns out I NEED that stuff now. Do I chuck out all the skinny stuff now? Or keep it? Buy new bigger stuff? Or hope that I shrink before it all disintegrates into threadbare holes? This lady of a certain age needs to make some lifestyle changes... 😳 I'd got away with things on that score for soooooooo long. Not any more! 🤣

I feel your pain, Rebecca. It is one of the curses of being in one's 40s. You are so active, though. And being diabetic, your diet is sane. You will walk it off before long. Get a hold of it now, though, while it is still a three-month project instead of a two-year project... sigh.

Memories are the best legacy. To know that you were loved and wanted and nurtured is the greatest gift.

Thank you, Susan. I agree. And that is something we both passed on to our sons. Neither of them has ever doubted our love for them.

Sign in... aaaack. Please Don't do passwords. My list is starting to look like a Chicago phone book. Did you really lose 30 lbs? Or was that just for the writing? Never step on the scale more than once a day. There is a standard 5 lb difference any time at all. Down 1 the next morning, up 5 by evening. Same or add another one next morning. Smaller plates, or just saucer size. Just one. Except for icecream. One box is single serving. Work hard enough for a rolling sweat every day. That doesn't work either. It took 78 years to gather up my "stuff". I'm still using it. I still like it even when I'm not "using" it. There's going to be one heck of an estate sale. Daughter gets first dibs. Auction house on the corner gets the rest.

This was priceless! I loved reading it. I STILL have a couple boxes of my son's childhood stuff. His karate suit and belts from when he was 6. His little christening outfit from when he was a baby! And his toddler tux he wore to my sister's wedding hahaha.

If he was still alive he would be turning 32 this year....that is a LONG time to have saved his baby things!!! When I die his children will have to decide what to do with it all because I'm certainly not letting it go anytime soon.

That sounds exactly right to me. It is wonderful you have someone to hand things down to. They may be too young to want them now, but as they age, they may change their minds.
