Oh well. there may still be hope for Jake. Maybe he just needs to experience some consequences for his actions, instead of always getting away with being an ass. We shall see. I don't want to turn this into a soap opera, but Haylene seems to have found her match with Jerome. Will the alligator wrestler be able to "tame" Haylene? I hope not...
This started out as just a one-time story and it got away from me. But I like the partnership of these two women. I believe more adventure may be brewing. I am trying to get Jim Cummings involved. He is such a fine writer of dialog. I would LOVE to see where he would take these two. ..
It's such a great story, Sharron - you've built such a brilliant relationship between two very different but equally wonderful characters - I'm always excited to read their adventures and meet the people they're meeting along the way for myself!
Oh boy! This is gets more and more interesting. Y'all are going to have to keep this going. The whole piece moves quickly and the dialog is on-point. I love the line that Rebecca also quoted: "I swear I will stab you in the heart with this pink flamingo letter opener. Then I will wipe it off and put a price tag on it." It shows that Marla, although young and inexperienced, can be a tough an independent woman. Also great is the contrast between Jake, the entitled jerk and Rennie, the unassuming nice young man. The relationship with Haylene is heartwarming and the phone call at the end reassures that Marla is ok and will persevere. This is some fine work Sharron!
Thanks for that, Justin. Man! I do not know how you keep up with all this reading! This morning I had nine stories to read. Needed THREE cups of coffee.
Ha! Trust me, I’m not keeping up at all. I’m still at least a month behind with my Substack reading, but I’ll have more time soon. I think I have an unread story of yours in my inbox from late April... 😬
OOOOO! Where's Momma when all this shake-down is going on? Behind every egotistic SOB is a complacent mother. Or at least that's true here. Hope Rennie's good or something besides cactus!

Great story, I am enjoying this for sure, love the characters. Keep the episodes coming.
Thanks they are quite a pair. I suspect they are my alter egos. Did I want to BE these women? Rats! Too late now.
They're NOT you, Sharron? xxx
Well...um.... okay...maybe.
Glad they are back… keep it going!
Thanks, Wade. These two women seem to have found the perfect friend.
Oh Sharron, this is wonderful - an absolute delight!
"Like frosting on cake"
"Exactly how much fun do you think I am going to have in three days?"
"I swear I will stab you in the heart with this pink flamingo letter-opener. Then I will wipe it off and put a price tag on it.”
I.
WANT.
MORE.
More of these amazing people!
MORE Haylene. More Marla. And yes, more, more, more Rennie, please!

You take me places I'd never go on my own.
Big deal today is watering potted plants and laundry.
Makes me happy. )))
That is a wonderful comment for a writer to hear. I'm sure you made Sharrons day with that one.!

I thank you so much for your suggestions for the final draft. I was a little stuck. I appreciate your opinions a LOT!
Love this duo! Thanks for another fun installment.

At any rate, thank God for coffee!
I was so happy to see Jake get his comeuppance! You go, Maria!! I love these ladies!! 💞
Poor Jake. Glad you like these two women. I am working on part 5 ... stay tuned!
This is so good, Sharron. Thanks for directing me here. I love these two!

I should have brought him back again. He sounded really sweet and educated.
Maybe write a whole series of Rennie stories, maybe shorts. Who knows where he'll lead.
Hmmmm.... let's see now...
