Haylene and Marla were standing by the side of the road in their underwear under a pink Florida moon. FOR MY NEW READERS - A six-minute adventure from the archive
These two gals always crack me up. Another great adventure Sharron. This line was just too funny, I had to chuckle..."Haylene had placed her money on L’il Snoozle for no reason, other than that his name reminded her of her first husband. And, like her first husband, L’il Snoozle let her down." - Jim
They are my alter egos. They do things I have NEVER done, and they make me laugh too. I loved that last line - "They were worn slap out. " And I loved Haylene saying, "I feel like I overcooked my grits." No mistaking those two feelings... I did a lot of research finding their language...
One Hialeah howl racing down the track to hitch a ride with a few drinks on the Side. Choice writing words Sharron. My bet’s on the Camaro not getting to Tennessee for quite some time.
You are right. Tennessee is in the "no cross zone" for little Marla. Part one show you why! These two women are my favorite characters to write about. Their lives are so completely different from mine. I love stepping into their adventures. Thanks for reading it, Richard.
You mention that one should say the name of the one horse, Fun King Proud (?) I think I got that wrong, but the idea is right, and soo clever...your alter egos have become a part of you! Lovely!
These two are just outrageous. Their troubles are mostly innocent. So far, fearless depending on the "kindness of strangers". That makes them fun to read. Worst penalty is a bent hangar.
That'd have to be a good 45 years ago. (1979)... lace class on east coast, pre-convention on the way to NY. Hostess Aurelia Loveman had instructor Doris Southard and me in her pool, 3 of us in our underwear. Repairmen for something or other were amused. That's the most blush I ever got in. Front steps of the house were "a foot" from the pavement, so maybe that counts as being on the edge of the road. Road encroached on Old Old OLD house, but nobody ever hit it. They drive different on sides of mountains out East. If we'd have known each other then, you'd have been right there too. ))))
Thanks, Barrie. Out of the Frying Pan started as a one-time flash fiction adventure. It has turned into eight separate adventures. These two women have snagged my heart. They make me laugh. So glad you liked it.

Haha, I'm fluent in that language.

The characters hit the right spot like coffee in morning. Get your motor running. Pleasures in a thoughtful think drink.
More Haylene and Marla, please!
Ha ha ha. I love to write about these ladies. I am not sure, but I believe they will be heading out to a dude ranch sometime in January.

Actually Sofa King Proud. Say it quickly three or four times. You'll get it. Maybe you won't want to.
Igot it! I just didn't remember it when I wrote this--your mind may allow it to be there more easily than mine! Sofa King, is quite a pride full name!

Glad you like these two friends of mine. If we were a couple years younger, Kate, it could be us...

“… even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes …” Perfect! Love this energy … these two are fun!

I always enjoy these two adventurers and their down-home dialect. The last line is a great example.
I myself have been worn slap out. You, too, I am sure. I liked Haylene saying , "I done overcooked my grits." We know that feeling as well.
