Brimstone and fire; sulfur and barbed wire. Plies the mines and yours buried in mire. Ready to explode when crossing a river of lustrous visions of decadent desires. Pax vobiscun.

Boats are an odd tool. I like very few. Better to be through than left behind, but once is more than plenty.

The River Styx...such an iconic place to see, feel or cross. What if?

If one crosses is that the beginning of the end? You've got the feeling stuck, (or is that a feeling that sticks?) in my gullet....

The ancient Greeks believed we ALL cross it. It. comes into my dreams a lot ( because I am old old old.

Nah! you're just a little kitten!! But River Styx IS in my memoir regarding the extraordinary lives of my parents: stepfather born in 1914 in Paris and lived to 104. Mother just as extraordinary, but that's another story, isn't it?

You should get that story written, if you haven't already. Sounds intriguing.

We can only hope this comes to pass. How many bodies of the victims will lie in mass graves before they can sleep in peace?

I went to a dark place this time. I just have to let it out or it will fry me.

I think we're all in a dark places ... or several places ... these days. As the Chinese curse says, May you live in interesting times. Well, here we are. We've been warned about this from various sources and we just have to get through it. Kind of like that 50s prompt Justin gave us last week. Yack! At least you and I are in a sort of "retired" bubble. Imagine young people navigating jobs and kids and all the stuff we used to take for granted. I wonder if Gen Zers live five to a two bedroom apartment like we used to do? But I understand, every now and then we have to go to our dark places to take refuge there before heading back to the glare.

I would hate starting out in this environment now. And I sure would not want to be a teacher. I could not handle it in any way. The kids, the parents, the administration.

There's a reason why so many parents are considering home school or charters, although the charter school movement was basically a way to rein those rebellious homeschoolers back into the classroom so the districts could get that ADA money. Sadly, our very good public schools have become cash cows for a top-heavy administrative order.

Sorry, I've become really jaded about schools. The day our daughter told me she hated reading, we took her out of school. Luckily, there was an excellent home school program in San Lorenzo Valley with four teachers with both home school and classroom teaching experience. Now that it's become a charter school, I have my doubts.

This is such an important statement, Sue. "When my child said she hated reading..." Good heavens, you made the right decision.

Sorry. Some things have to be written, just to clear out the head. But I really don't have to post them, do I? I need to self-edit...

I think it's good to bring the dark thoughts into the light where they often disappear.

I am glad you agree. Sometimes I feel a black cloud filling my head and if I get it out on "paper" I can see what it is all about. Therapy.

Thoughts disentangle themselves, over the lips and through the fingertips. You have set your deepest thoughts free. Writing is such a powerful tool, Sharron, and you use it to create, so beautifully. Your words flow through my mind, along with your perfect choice in music, healing the self-inflicted wounds of a society hell bent on destruction.

Ah well, we all have demons to purge.... writing helps me. As for the "society hell-bent on self-destruction," I leave that problem to ones much smarter than me. I haven't a clue where we are going. Thank you, Sharon.
