Thank you, VikkiDawn. I am glad this little account sat well with you this morning. Bartle Clunes is a very sweet, old fashioned story filled with nostalgia. Seems perfect for this time of year. You can find it here: https://sharronbassano.substack.com/s/bartle-clunes
Thank you Rae, for coming on over to 🌿LEAVES to read. You are very welcome! I am happy you liked this excerpt from Bartle Clunes. If it appeals to you, you can find it here: https://sharronbassano.substack.com/s/bartle-clunes
You had me on the porch and sitting across the three of them at the table. I don't like honey but I do like cornbread. You remember that time I met Eizer Griggs at the grocery. He was surprized but said Hi for you. Haven't seen him since.
I remember reading this around Thanksgiving time and it's beautiful for now. Just what that little babe in the manger would have liked to see. OUr family does something like this every Thanksgiving: there seems always to be one or two (or more) people at the table whom we have never met before...it's wonderful to encounter someone who has the same heart and writes it out.
Aw, thank you Jill, for having a second look. Maybe you have an old friend you could share it with? Possibly a shut-in who would love to be read to? My mom asked me to read Bartle Clunes to her over and over. It was a fine way to spend quality time together.
There are many people who are expressing their hearts at the moment and I feel it is so important to spread out all of the goodness that we really have and that people can feel deeply and share at this time of year and then perhaps perhaps perhaps if we are lucky, it will stay with us for a long time❣️
With the ever-constant barrage of media gloom and fear mongering, it is easy to lose sight of the good. But there is a LOT of good in humanity and in he world still.
It IS a deep December day, isn't it? A California deep December day. Perfect for just staying in pajamas and drinking coffee and reading. Maybe even writing a word or two. I sure enjoyed the Lizard King's latest adventure. and look forward to your next road trip account.
Reading this again reminded me of how I loved reading the whole book. Pleasant, uplifting stories about simple people living in simpler times. Bartle Clunes was a book that gave comfort and shelter as well as a good story.
Thank you, David. I wrote this story for my mom, then 96 years old. She felt right at home in Riles Crossing and the characters there became like her friends as I wrote it. I think younger folk find appeal in it too, though. I wish you an exciting trip to Egypt! I am happy you are still out looking for adventure! I expect a full report.
Hi Sharron, this is absolutely lovely—in every way! It touches a part of me that remembers a time like that and wishes we had not moved so far away from it.
Thank you. Just a first introduction to these denizens of the foot hills. Not every story needs a twist, a shock or a catastrophe! Sometimes we just want to go somewhere else for a few minutes and be at peace...
Super cozy, heartwarming story Sharron, especially poignant this time of year when the gift of giving is in the air - I raise my glass to you - cheers!
Thanks for reading about these two old-fashioned women, Conor and for your comment. They are certainly different from Haylene and Marla, the last two women I wrote about. Happy Christmas to you, and if you go to church, say a prayer for me for the absolution of all my sins. I could use a little intercession.
I'll have to check Haylene and Marla out then - sad to say I haven't seen the inside of a church in years, but it would certainly be a good time of year for a comeback - happy Christmas to you!
Thank you, TIm for coming over to Leaves to read this rather old fashioned story. I loved recreating the language and the mood of the 1940s here for these two sweet ladies. Happiest of holidays to you and to all those who love you out there wherever you are.
A fitting example of the adage what you give away comes back to you. This is a modern version of the Good Samaritan, but more hands-on. Perfect for the season. Thank you, Sharron. Feliz Navidad.
Thank you, Alexander. I had fun trying to recreate the feel and sound of rural mid-century California. An old-fashioned tale with no car crashes, explosions, sex or catastrophes. You know, just for a change of pace. ha ha ha. Happiest of holidays seasons to you. I have enjoyed your work so much this past year.
I know, I've read the whole story before but some of these chapters just ring the bell again and make me feel good all over. Thank you for this Sharron and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thank you, Jim. I imagine you and Erin will be traveling to be with family in the next couple of days. As for me, a trip across town. Have a great time.
PS I did get part three written of the Girl in the Window. Posting Christmas day...
I thoroughly enjoyed that story. Perfect for this time of year. Hope your holidays are awesome.

Yes, I do remember you ran into Eizer in a market. That was a bit of magic, if you ask me!

Such a fine read with my morning cup of coffee on this deep in December day. Thanks, Sharron!

Thank you Janice. I though the tone of this tale would resonate somewhere in your heart. I hope you will try another Chapter of Bartle Clunes.

Yup, and speaking of peace, if I haven't already done so, I wish you and those you hold dear a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. - Jim

No, me neither. Just trying to hedge my bets…. Here is a four-minute Haylene and Marla adventure - It is sure to make you laugh.
Uplifting and appropriate for this time of the season! Thank you🙏
Thank you Yael. Stay warm and safe, my friend. I hope you have the comfort of family or friends around you on this winter day.
Lovely story Sharron. I think the names are one of the best parts of this story

Gracias, equalmente, mi amiga.
