Beautiful Sharron. Makes one wonder how many opportunities for connection are lost for the lack of a little courage.

THANKS FOR COMING OVER TO 🍁LEAVES TO READ, JIM. YOU HAVE A LOT OF CHOICES OUT THERE, SO IT MEANS A LOT TO ME!

What a great story, I love how you got into this guy's head and explained how he was thinking. How did you get such good insight into how shy men think about approaching women.

Expand full comment

Shy women go through the same angst. It would be so much easier if people just told others how they feel. If she hadn't approached him, it was never going to happen.

OMG! This reminds me, almost exactly, of a similar "event" back in the mid-70s! Who would have thought?!!... One in a million chance....

Expand full comment

Well! I would like to know more about THAT story, Mr A.T. !

Expand full comment

Where can I send the story??? Man, that's deep past... and a sweet memory....

Expand full comment

Well! I think you should write that story for Substack, A.T.

Sounds intriguing!

It's done. It just needs to be sealed with a kiss. :) Very nice, Sharron.

Awww. How right you are. He was waiting so long. He had no idea she was watching him, too.

Lovely line: "...hair that is sort of chopped off at an angle, like a soft whisk broom against her cheek."

You absolutely GOT ME with the ending - which, LOL, is in fact a beginning! - it took me by complete surprise! Such a great story, Sharron!

Expand full comment

Yes... I wondered if that ending would surprise anyone. Thanks, Rebecca!

The whole story you'd led me to believe that HE had been going to make the first move....! Great, great ending!

Yes, you're reeling us in! ☕️

The smart women go after the shy guys. 😉🤓

Lot of smart women out there. Are you a shy guy, Mark?

What a perfect twist/ending! It seems we have two peas in a pod, here. Lovely characters and story, Sharron!

I wonder if Jeremy would EVER have walked over to her... I mean what WAS the worst thing that would happen? And could his battered ego not mend?? Women are scary, but not THAT scary. Right?

Expand full comment

Women aren’t scary at all! Well...maybe to some men. But you’re probably right...maybe Jeremy wouldn’t have taken the chance of approaching her. Kind of sad to think about, in a way!

Expand full comment

Yes it is. As Jim Cummings asks , "How many opportunities for connection are lost for the lack of a little courage?" I am going for the happy ever after ending any time I can! ha ha

Nice ending! Good length x

Thank you, Lee. I prefer writing flash fiction. I wrote one novel; it was very satisfying in the end, but a long project. ( https://sharronbassano.substack.com/s/bartle-clunes ) Thanks for stopping by! Hope to see you here again at 🍁Leaves!

Lovely! I was hoping it would happen this way! I just don't wait anymore for the guy, etiquette I was fiercely brought up with -- not to be so brazen, "Young Lady". I'm not brazen, and I am bold when it comes to meeting someone I think I'll really like. We could say, for young women today who hold onto these traditions, this is a revolutionary piece, Sharron, the Daring! Thank You!

Expand full comment

Well, I don't know about revolutionary, Bonita. Let's see ... how many years ago were we burning our bras? Don't answer that! But I just didn't think Jeremy was ever going to get to it, so I gave him a present. ( My story, my rules... ha ha ha)

I'm sure he appreciated Your gift. I've had several men delighted that, reading their interest, I took the first step. And, they were great experiences.

Yay! You go, Bonita!
