I wrote this for Justin Deming’s Along the Hudson. He challenged us to write a 50-word piece based on his prompt: “Out of the Nest”.

My little boy raced Hot Wheels across his blankets, up and over our bedtime knees. “Vrooom!”
He’ll have cars when he’s grown, I imagined.
And now the vintage Mustang and classic Ranchero proudly stand in his driveway.
I remember his childhood “pajama-driving” with such longing.
Where have the years gone?
I LOVE this little story..the absolute picture of a boy and his cars...growing up to be a man and his cars. Indeed, Sharron! Where HAVE the years gone? I remember your little boy, at 7 years old, in his little tux, for our wedding. He was so sweet, when he led Mama to her seat in the church.
Are we ever completely out of the nest?
That might have been yesterday, rather than yesteryear!
Fledged?
I hope both Fledged and freed.
