Oh, now there is a topic for my next conversation between Jane and her android! What could go wrong? Well, she could actually fall in love with him and then come to a stark realization that she is the only one in the room, that she is just play-acting and the only audience is herself... heartbreak-city if you ask me.
Or, maybe kids could get into the mix. he did say "I assure you I am fully functional, Jane, and able to carry out whatever you desire with tenderness and creativity."
Heather! Now I am wondering what features YOU would find most attractive in a companion android. I, for example, would appreciate the self-maintenance feature and the off-switch. ha ha ha
Thanks for your advice about giving my android an origin. Spot on! What I liked best about "him" is that he had a deactivate feature and didn't mind being put away for a while. You'd never find that in a male of our species, I believe...
I was just thinking... maybe "regular" men would like the gift of an android of their own as well, one whose sole purpose would be to make them happy. I imagine the desired features would be quite different. Question: Why is having an android funny from the woman's point of view, but somehow politically incorrect the other way around? Or am I imagining that?
Ah ha! Yes, it seems that testosterone is a liability at the moment.
I am not in the market but if I were, I would always prefer a living, loving female companion. But, hey, If an android goddess showed up on my doorstep? Can't be rude, right?
Yes! And he doesn't even get his feelings hurt when deactivated. ( No feelings!) I thought about this long and hard, Justin. Let's see.... what sort of features would I like for my android to have....? (And I I really don't care anything about the saxophone and dancing part.) ha ha ha
Hmm...Oh, I don’t know. I think it would be pretty funny from both sides. We all have needs, though they vary person to person. Honestly on first read I thought the story was a bit dark (perhaps darkly humorous, too - kind of an eerie thought to think about an AI companion!), but there was also a touch of true romanticism. I thought the story was cleverly done, and genuinely hope it never comes to this. 😄
AI'd be a match of Dan. Just enough different in many ways to never be boring. Its good that we have different apartments so we can do what we wish undisturbed, leave chores till whenever and no one gets upset. All the dishes in the sink are our own. All the fingerprints on the cabinets and fridge are our own. Always pleased to see each other with a smooch and goodly hugs. Fine discourse on any subject. Stew for you, RiceKrispies for me... and its all good. Lots of show n tell for what we did apart. Each problem solvers for half our joint lives. Work divided by who can do which. Professional "rent a brain" for each other. Lots of laughs. lots of smiles. ))
Two friends timed out last week. Reminders of mortality and devastation to come.... but not today.
Very intriguing vision of the future, Sharron. But I think we need rainy days to appreciate sunny weather, and the same goes for spats in our relationships. For one thing, Jane and android will be missing out on the glory of makeup sex.
Ackkk!
Aaah,, the perfect Adam to her Eve, eh?!
Who's kidding who here!
Very cute. Excellent ending. I think it’s algorithm, not algorhythm.
Thanks, Stu, for catching the typo! I fixed it right away.
I like the "word" algorhythm, gives it an additional meaning. For the future Sharron....
Hah! Thanks, Sharon.
That cuts the biggest fear of outliving the partner. Thanks Dad )))
There is always that! I wonder what features Kate would want programmed into HER android companion.
Love this, what could go wrong?

ooooh.creepy.
Apple Store? Where, where, where?

Actually, those 2 are my favs. Also the ability to return him/it, no questions asked, with no expiration date. 🤪
Looks like we "regular" men are going to have to step up our game if this is the future.
I like the way you've told this eerie little tale in the form of conversation, without any narration.
Very cool, Sharron.

Don't ask me, kiddo. Ask Erin.
Yeah, uh, never mind.
It's a brave new world, Jane.
Yes, I think the actualization of convincing android partners is not that far off.
HaHa Sharon.... The title should be “Every Woman’s Fantasy”.... or you could change genders and make it “Every Man’s Fantasy”.
Great idea!
But then life would be so boring. Discovering each other is part of the magic.
Ah, Wade. You are so right. However, some of us have reached the age when we are done with the magic of discovery and just want a sure thing. hah!
I mean, if you can deactivate him whenever you want, it might not be such a bad experience! 😄
What an awesome story, Sharron. I love the way you structured it. The dialogue/ back and forth is incredibly smooth.

Hahaha! Oh trust me, you’ve made it crystal clear! 🤣
Oh no....
Hey, check out the question I asked Jim above about skewed political correctness. I would love your thoughts.

AI partners are right around the corner, Justin, if you ask me.

Sounds like you two have it all figured out. I imagine you were both dedicated to getting it right. Congratulations!

Interesting thought. I wonder if he could be programmed to argue ..?
)))))))))))
This is fabulous, Sharron! You've opened so many thoughts up for me with this post!
Hmmmm, I think I'd quite like to be the one in charge of *my* android's programming.....! 😉
Well, of course you would! I imagine the first thing on your list of tutelage would be list-making! Now, then second thing... hmmm...
🤣
Dream on. 🤣
