But how nice it is to escape into an older, simpler way of life for a while...

Bartle Clunes is definitely not for everyone in 2024, Jim. Bucolic, slower paced, full of kindness and affection... by design. Thanks for taking a peek at it. I appreciate your support more than I can say. Truly.

Crazy how at peace this story makes me feel!

Thanks, James Ron, for saying that. Yes. This quiet community in the Sierra foothills of 1949 is a peaceful place. It is the pace of life and the simplicity of their living, I think. And as you will see, the care they have for their neighbors.

This is compelling writing, Sharron. The characters are vivid and simple and so well anchored in the time and setting. The dialogue is natural and clever. I want to reach down and scratch the dog and go outside with Bartle and help him clean up. The whole saga is full of love and decency which says a lot about the characters and also the writer. Thanks for bringing this back, Sharron.

You are so kind, Jim. I know that Bartle Clunes is not for everyone in this modern era. ( None of the violence, car chases, treachery, disloyalty, angst, etc. that one finds in much current writing..) I appreciate that a writer of your sensitivity and expertise finds some quality to it. It means so much to me. Thank you

I have always loved your Bartle Clunes stories...every chapter stands alone, as a beautiful little story. Together, they make an outstanding book.

Thanks, sweetheart. You were always so kind and patient when I made you and Benny sit at my table and listen to me read the early drafts aloud to you. I don't forget that kindness.

It was my pleasure - as someone else said it reminds me of a gentler, sweeter time.

I like the way you present Bartle and Louvina's love dance, so tender and tentative. The way you describe this place, I keep thinking it is set in frontier America. When I realize it is 1949, it blows me away. Of course, this is a rural community and culture, I've never found friendlier or more welcoming people than country folk. I am probably reading these chapter out of sequence, but I still enjoy them.
