Another good guess, Mitchell. But whatever happens to these women, they will find resolution together. They are fast friends. I never had a friend like Haylene -- she is larger than life! I am never sure where they will go next, but ideas come to me sometimes in my sleep. Thanks for hanging around at 🍁Leaves. I am so glad you found my little corner of Substack City.

Sort of puts everything into perspective, doesn't it. I guess politics is the biggest market...

Good visuals!

Thanks, Kid. That's a lot of rummaging through photo files, I will tell you!

What a great story. How can I read "Haylene and Marla were standing by the side of the road in their underwear." and not click on the link. Great dialog and great character building.

I know. Irresistible, right? Thanks for the compliments! Glad you are still hanging out, Scott. I always appreciate your comments.

Another intriguing piece.

Thanks, Wade. I believe three episodes is enough for a while... unless something comes to me in a dream. I am glad you're still reading my stuff.

That's a fun pair of women. Are you sure their names aren't Sharron and Kate? ))

Thanks for letting us inside your brain for a while. Good vacation )))

Maybe a few years ago a Florida roadtrip would have been fun. But, alas, not for me any more. I am a stay-at-home!

Any story that starts with two women standing by the side of the road in their underwear is going to be interesting.

I love the image of a racoon on a pogo stick.

Haylene betting on "Apparently unmotivated horses." Fiddle-dee-dee.

Poignant line, "Fortune had never been kind to her back home in Tennessee."

The down-home expressions add so much humor to the dialog "Overcooked my grits" and "Worn slap out."

Funny and endearing episode Sharron. Let's see what "The Profligates" do in Vero Beach!

Yes...hmmmm... I thought the word UNDERWEAR might be a good hook. ha ha ha! I am not beyond a little manipulation. By the way, I had to change the name of Marla's winning horse. Believe it or not, there was a real race horse with that name. As well as MANY other Sofa Kings. Took a while to find one that was not already used.

Sharron, Great story-telling. You have a fabulous way with words! Writing for you seems as easy-peasy as breathing. You also need to print up this book when done, because I can't wait to share it with my book club members. -Marina

Oh good! I am glad you find it entertaining! As far as a book? I don't think so, but all you have to do is hit the SHARE button and it will be sent to any email you write in. Try it with part 1 and see what happens?

“I don’t have my swimsuit, Haylene.”

“What are we gonna do now, Haylene?”

I love how these two lines sum up the pecking order in the relationship between these two fabulous characters, Sharron! 😊

Good! These two women met in Part 1 - Haylene, a 40-something bleach-blonde, RICH widow on the loose and Marla a 21-year-old hitch-hiker running from family with only $28 to her name. So yes, Haylene is definitely in charge, but she feels very motherly toward Marla, and will give her anything. I am glad you are sticking with it, Rebecca. With all the things you have to do, I am honored.

Sharron, you sure do have a way with words!

Thank you, James. I have always read a lot, so I know a lot of words. The hard part is figuring out which ones to choose and how to put them in the correct order. ha ha ha. I learned a lot of new words - southern expressions - for this series. I cherish them all. I have been "worn slap out" a lot lately. Now I have the best way to express it! Happy day to you.

YEah... me too. That's why its fun to read and dream. I've done my driving in a semi. Big fun of the day today is dig up extra plants to give to friends. And icecream. )))

I dug up , repotted, threw away a few myself yesterday. Irises in full bloom now. I was really proud of myself. Gardening is not my favorite activity, but I am too proud to let my yard go. You know, neighbors and all.

worn slap out-that's a fun fun phrase and real tired!

Not everyone can have a yellow Camaro!🚕

I like that expression, too. It is very clear to me how worn out that really is! Thanks for coming back to read, Ron Just Mud.

I love traveling with these gals. Is there more?

Maybe.... I just have to wait and see what they tell me. Thanks for reading, Bonita!

Hmm, I wonder what comes next for these two.

Sorry, Janice. I missed your comment. I like these two women. They sort of represent, in part, who I was and who I'd like to have been. ( I will let you figure out which is which. ha ha ha) Be well, my friend, and behave yourself!

I love Marla and Haylene! Their attitude toward life--Haylene kissed another $200 good-bye on a couple of other apparently unmotivated horses, but win or lose, she didn’t care--and how much fun they have together.

Terrific story.

You are too cool, Bill Adler. Thanks for stopping what you were doing to read Out of the Frying Pan. The girls are just temporarily on the back burner. I am letting them cool their heels after that jail time. Another episode is in the offing.

Oh my --just as I thought reading was healthy for your mind, here you go spinning me toward Loxahachie....ooo--that was Loxahoochie, wasn'tit?

An area I know all too well, yet your fun playing with puns and words has me mermaidized..or should that be mesmerized???

Writing is FUNN--(four letters on purpose) isn't it?

Gets the kinks out of your synapses.

It sure does, Jill. And that has to be one of the best opening lines I have ever written. ha ha ha. Who could resist? Thanks for looking back into the archive for Haylene and Marla. They now have their own special section at the top of my home page for whenever you need a little titillation or just a good laugh.

Some of those southern expressions I had to search for. I love it when Haylene says "You can just kiss my go to hell!"
